Camera Vision Foreground Detection Employing Frame Differencing And Background Subtraction In Solar Farm Monitoring Application

Abstract

Conventional solar farm management requires manual labor in constant checking and monitoring
of the solar panel condition. The performance of solar power harvesting would drop if dirt or other
impurities appeared on the surface of the solar panels. However, it increases the cost as it requires manual
labor and it is time-consuming to perform manual checking. Hence, automated monitoring of the solar panel
condition should be implemented. And the maintenance and cleaning can be switched to a demand basis
from scheduled cleaning. In this paper, a camera vision-based automated solar farm monitoring system
employing background subtraction and foreground detection technique were presented. Frame differencing
video analysis with different threshold was tested. The optimized threshold was identified and the best
