Emotional Intelligence and Job Characteristics Predicting Happiness at Work of Maintenance Technicians in Real Estate Business

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to investigate levels of emotional intelligence, job characteristics, and happiness at work of technicians, to study relationship between emotional intelligence and happiness at work of technicians, to study relationship between job characteristics and happiness at work of technicians, and to predict happiness at work using emotional intelligence and job characteristics of technicians. The sample in the study consisted of 132 maintenance technicians in real estate business in Thailand with the convenience sampling method. The findings from the study were as follow: 1. Emotional intelligence had positive relationship with happiness at work of the maintenance technicians with a statistical significance level of .01 2. Job characteristics had positive relationship with happiness at work of the maintenance technicians with a statistical significance level of .01 3. Of the stepwise multiple regression analysis, the result showed variables predicting happiness at work of the maintenance technicians were job characteristics (b = .556, ? = .305) and emotional intelligence (b = .305, ? = .299). Both variables were able to mutually predict happiness at work of the maintenance technicians by 57.80% (R2= .578).
