Abstract

The possibilities of Internet of Things (IoT) is endless, and it could very well be implemented in
the construction industry for a significant amount of benefits. These benefits can come in the form a
reduction in time and effort for the construction workers., therefore speeding up the construction process.
Thus, to implement IoT to the construction industry, a SMART protective eyewear glasses capable of
identifying fault, as well as display and relay information through the cloud was designed. Several
secondary systems were also designed to be implemented to the construction industry while making full use
of the IoT platform called Adafruit.io. First, a personnel tracking system was designed and implemented to
display the location of personnel on the glasses. A smart power monitoring and control system was also
designed to monitor the power of a certain sector of the construction site and display the power consumption
on the glasses. A supervisor also can turn the power of that section on and off through the internet. Apart
from that, using a camera implemented into the glasses, it is possible to identify faults and cracks on walls,
and determine the severity of said fault or crack. The glasses could be used to notify the details of this fault
as well as display the characteristics of it. Finally, the glasses can display important information such as task
lists for employees as well. All of these features were designed, tested, then finally integrated with the
glasses to produce the final product.
