Abstract

Academic dishonesty includes, cheating in examinations tests and any academic assignments, plagiarism, fabrication of information or citations, facilitation of acts of academic studies by others, unauthorized possession of examination materials, submitting work of another person as yours or work previously published or submitted for assessment or non-assessment purposes without informing the instructor, and tampering with the academic work of other researchers or scholars. A full policy statement should be contained in the University Senate Regulations and Guidelines to punish or bring to book offenders and culprits. Candidates are held responsible for any specific conditions and standards set by any center of learning in an examination or assessment of any sort. In most cases a minimum outcome is a recommendation to the disciplinary board that a grade of “F” be assigned for the work involved in cheating. Some extreme cases may include or result in expulsion and blacklisting of offenders. These methods apply to situations where the candidate is caught and proven to be cheating. With the Institutions reputation at stake and the negative impact of these reported cases to the integrity of the institution reputation, many a times cases are ignored or less punitive measures are applied. This serves as a motivation to the students towards cheating. Many solutions are geared towards catching cheaters in action, after the offence has been committed. This paper proposes an IoT based solution towards preventing cheating in examinations. It is believed most cases of cheating are premeditated and take a lot of planning and preparation. All this planning and preparation should be redirected towards examination preparation not cheating. A wholistic practical and full solution is presented here...
