Effect of Carbon Nanotube as Nano-Additives on the Performance, Emission and Combustion Characteristics of a Diesel Engine

Abstract

The new emission norms and demand of diesel fuel presented an opportunity to search for its substitute. Biodiesel can improve the combustion and emission characteristics of the diesel engine when used with diesel as blend. The use of nano-additive can further enhance the combustion which will improve the performance and emission of the engine. This study was aimed to review the effect of nano-additives with diesel and biodiesel on the diesel engine performance and emission characteristics. It further covers the preparation methodology, stability and characterization of nano fuel emulsion. At the end of this study, the effect of nano-additives was summarized with for the parameters such as brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), brake thermal efficiency (BTE), CO, NOx, HC, and PM.
