Professional vocational teacher skills in 21st century Indonesia
Abstract
This article focuses on the skills needs of professional teacher at vocational school in Indonesia. The challenges of the 21st century have changed and become a big challenge for vocational teachers, while teachers in vocational schools are limited to age, educational background, employment status, and other determining factors. The main objective of this study is to analyze the perceptions of professional vocational teachers in the 21st century as teachers of the future. The research approach used a quantitative survey using a stationary questionnaire. A total of 139 vocational teachers describe how professional vocational teachers are for the future. The results showed that (1) technology skills & ICT were interpreted as hard skills competencies and in addition to 4Cs, literacy strengthening was needed to strengthen soft skills; and (2) vocational teachers need hands-on experience at IDUKA. This study recommends that the competence of vocational teachers needs to be upgraded through various training and professional education.
