Active Vibration Control Using Piezoelectric Material-A Review
Abstract
Vibration is a phenomenon produced in the system that may or may not subject to an external force. Due to an increase in the vibration at the microns level, the need for active vibration control is increasing day by day. Since the development of active vibration, extensive work has been carried out on successful vibration reduction approaches. In this research work, the objective is to find the research work carried out by different authors and scientists in the control of active vibration and also to find the literature gap available for future research work. Different research papers related to active vibration control are studied and noted the present approaches and analyzed the gap that exists in the research work. Research shows that because of its tailored properties, intelligent materials such as piezoelectric (PZT) materials can be used for active damping control. It was also observed that different control methods i.e. use of the electromechanical system, by application of microfiber actuators (MFC) or active fiber actuators (AFC), by changing the composition or orientation of fibers in composite beam were done to control the vibration. The literature review gives a more clear idea of future scopes available in this research topic. More accurate active vibration control can be achieved if more emphasis is given on the composition of piezoelectric materials, their voltage input and to find the different natural frequencies and their mode shapes. Better results can also be achieved by applying the control methods to more realistic problems like control of vibration produced in I-cross section Railway tracks.
