Abstract

This part of study is concerned to examine the status of rural electrification and progress of Uttar
Pradesh. As rural electrification in U.P divided into distinct subsectors i.e. generation, transmission and
distribution. This helps in knowing various sources responsible for supply of electricity in Uttar Pradesh.
This paper focuses on the electrification being made in rural areas in past and current years, progress of
Electrification of villages by L.T. Mains, private tubewells, State tubewells and canals, Schedule caste
basties. Earlier people were dependent on consumption of traditional fuel like charcoal, kerosene, natural
gas etc. which was considered to be main source of heating and lighting. The analysis shows the condition of
rural electrification is considered to be better as compared to past years. As we know main occupation of
rural sectors is agriculture, hence rural electrification helped in introducing advanced and modern techniques
of farming. This paper helps in analyzing not only access of electricity but also rates being charged against
the per unit usage of electricity for this electric meters also installed in every residence of rural areas but
when we go through the available data and compares the data we find there is still many areas which are
unelectrified where still people are living in darkness and hence their living standard is very poor and their
average income is below poverty line though U.P has almost attains the electrification but there are many
more obstacles in this way which is still task for government
