Abstract

The shoreline or coastline is the interface between land and water which gets altered due to various factor mainly
cause by anthropogenic impacts and natural occurrence. Tracking and observing the shoreline changes is essential as
it deepens the understanding about the factors that cause the shoreline changes and detection of beach condition. The
utilization of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or drone has becoming an important technology in coastal engineering
mainly in the study of the shoreline changes due to the application that is more reliable and easy compared to the
previous technology used. The objective of this research are to analyse the condition of shoreline at selected beaches,
produce the shoreline data and evaluate the shoreline changes based on processed images. The drone was flown
throughout the grid line set in the “pix4d” application and captured the image while flying followed the flight planning
route. The data interpretation of shoreline changes was obtained by using the Pix4d Mapper and Global Mapper
software. The image taken by the drone is then processed in the software and the evaluation of shoreline can be done
by evaluating the output of the processing data. The observation of shoreline changes was taken within one month
period starting from 27th October 2018 until 24th November 2018.The changes of shoreline were visible within the
period of shorter than one month thus prove the condition of Pantai Punggur as one of the beach that is in state of
erosion.
