Abstract

The model proposed in this paper is a new circuit design to make a charging system for Battery operated Electric
Vehicles(BEV) that has improved Power Factor(pf) on the input side of the circuit. The topology discussed here suggests
replacing the currently used diode bridge rectifier(DBR) with Landsman converter which is connected in parallel with
another Landsman converter which act as a Power Factor Correcting Converter (PFC). This PFC is then connected with a
push pull converter which gives the desired output voltage to the EV battery at the output end. The suggested design
reduces the losses, improves power quality, reduces harmonics and supplies an overall more stable output when compared
to the existing DBR chargers. The simulation for the further elaborated design was made and the results were found to be
satisfactory as per IEC 61000-3-2 standard. A hardware prototype was also designed which conferred with the expected
output.
