Abstract

This paper presents a new ingenious sliding mode control (SMC) for CUK converter which is used for the power
factor correction for a BLDC motor drive system. This control model is capable tocontrol the speed of the BLDC
precisely along with maintaining the power factor (PF) of the AC mains. The traditional model for power factor
correction had used the PI controller to control the CUK converter output voltage, which lacked direct speed control
and the system response is sluggish and have more steady state error. The use of SMC is a promising approach to
solve the PF issues of BLDC. Moreover, the SMC control is robust, stable and adaptive for any change in load
variation.. The Hardware and Simulink model has proved that SMC controlis the better controller than the PIand
best suited for BLDC drive applications
