Abstract

Nature’s complimentary gift to the mother Earth is solar energy which can be highly lucrative if harvested
effectively. Nearly 20% of the energy from the Sun is wasted all throughout the world which needs immediate
measures for resource exploitation. Photovoltaic (PV) panel aids in converting the solar energy to electrical energy
which is used to feed dc loads/grid. In this paper, modelling, performance and cost benefit studies of stand-alone PV
array fed dc-dc boost converter under steady state and transient conditions are considered. The open loop
characteristics of dc-dc boost converter are studied from the model developed in Simulink. The validation of the
simulation result is carried out by comparing it with the experimental characteristics supplied by the manufacturer.
The solar data and system components of grid integrated PV plant located at Rajasthan are also briefly studied.
