Abstract

In future microgrids, penetrations of renewable energy sources (RESs) based converter control may degrade the frequency stability due to 1) intermittent outputs from RES, 2) interactions of converter control, and 3) replacements of main generators owing to low inertia system. To regulate the frequency, this paper presents a frequency regulation method in a hybrid microgrid. The hybrid microgrid consists of electric vehicle (EV), solar photovoltaic (SPV), wind generator (WG), and conventional generator. Simulation study is conducted for validating the proposed controller. The proposed controller is optimally designed for RES and EV. Simulation results demonstrate that the control technique of RES and EV can provide an effective frequency regulation performance under various operating conditions.
