Review on Types of Wind Turbines and Associated Difficulties

Abstract

Wind power is an established and cheap technology. As the industry faces environmental challenges and becomes the main source of power generation in the next few years, wind power is expected to become a promising technology. This manuscript focuses primarily on VAWT. Types of wind turbines are discussed along with the advantages and disadvantages of VAWT and HAWT. The challenges and issues in the lifecycle of wind turbines are discussed in later part. These includes the design and technical challenges, impact of wind energy on the environment, impact on animals and human being; the operating cost and other finance involved, grid dynamics, and the impact on transmission planning.
