Abstract

History has revealed that men have always kept all kinds of powers in their hands from ancient
times and have thought it best to keep women in a state of dependence. Their codes of law have been set up
against women and thus they have been certainly named as the ‘other sex’. Since then, women have always
been considered as ‘weaker sex’ and they have been deprived of social, economic, and political justice. They
have often been marginalized and viewed as adjunct to men. The question of female identity arises when
women become aware of the patriarchal society. The paper discusses how women have attained their
identity overcoming all traditional barriers and patriarchal domination.
