Abstract

Mathematics is an important and essential tool that required as a knowledge utilized in all
engineering fields of study. This paper aims to investigate and compare the performance trends of students
taking Engineering offered in the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUOT) from the years
2015 to 2018. The data were gathered from departmental examinations in mathematics and analyzed using
Microsoft Excel to generate expected results. This tabulated the performance trends over the entire four
years required to graduate. The overall performance in each evaluated department has increased, which
indicates that they were able to identify and learn from their mistakes each year and improve their
performance in the following yeaR.
