Abstract

The purpose of the study is to investigate on Touch ‘n’ Go and Smart Tag electronic toll collection (ETC) system effectiveness to the consumers, and furthermore to examine the various operating systems of toll collection along the toll plazas by measuring, transaction time and traffic volume passing through toll plaza. 300 questionnaires had been distributed to road users and customers to evaluate their views of the system on the basis of their experience. The benefits of using Touch ‘n’ Go and Smart Tag system instead of conventional toll collection system in Malaysian highways are clear. It has been observed that the Smart Tag lane has lesser tollbooth transaction time and then Touch ‘n’ Go lane. Furthermore, the number of vehicles that crossing the Touch ‘n’ Go and Smart Tag lanes are greater than conventional lane especially during peak hour. This translates to reduced traffic congestion at toll plazas, less air pollution. This study also to identify the factors that would make non-users of Touch ‘n’ Go and Smart Tag system to convert to users.
