Abstract

Hematite (Fe2O3) and magnetite (Fe3O4) nano-crystallites were successfully synthesized by
Arc-discharge method by using NaCl, KCl and LiCl salts as electrolytes which can be easily available. Since
the most widely used natural element on earth is iron, therefore it finds many applications in biomedical and
in many other research areas when these particles are in nano form when compared with micro or macro
form. Such type of magnetic nano-crystallites find many applications such as they are used as catalyst for
carbon nanotube formation, as ion battery application, in magnetic drug targeting ,magnetic resonance
imaging(MRI), cancer treatment, tissue repair, as pigments, also in cosmetics. At present the study is
focused on the characterization of magnetic nano-crystallites using XRD, zeta potential, FTIR, TGA and
DTA. Also the physical parameters like strain, specific surface area and dislocation density of the magnetic
nano-crystallites are also investigated. The magnetic nano-crystallites having size less than 100nm have high
magnetization values. Based on the obtained size and effects, their magnetic properties will be investigated
and discussed briefly
