Abstract

Drainage channels are constructed in order to manage flows and avoid disasters like floods in a given area. A special study on the relation of organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings was done specifically on urban settings. Specifically, Laboratory and direct observation tests on drainage contents with regard to other lives within and around the channels especially on human beings were done. It was found out that human beings among other animals live near the channels. There are also other organisms that live in the channels especially the water parts that are of effect to the ecological system because of the irresponsible dumping especially of polythene and faecal material. There are possible fertilizer components that are expected to be in the sediment carried which may need further testing. Findings shall help in the proper management of the channels in terms of controlling floods and extraction of proper use of the channels. The study findings are also expected to improve on the income through channel sediment utilization and general life levels of the ecological neighbors to channels.
