A Comprehensive Rubric Model for Assessment of Final Year Projects

Abstract

Rubrics provide uniform assessment by providing predetermined evaluation criteria for assessing the quality of a task. Rubrics guide teachers in improving quality of teaching and learning and students to improve allover skills. The evaluation of Final year project in computer science is typically handled with seminars, group discussions and document evaluation. This evaluation process lacks methodology that broadens the horizons of students and fails to extract the innovative skills of student. The project when evaluated efficiently helps the mentor to identify the strengths and shortcomings of students. This article proposes a uniform rubric assessment model for evaluating final year project and bridges the gap in implementation of final year project. The new assessment framework presented showcases different criteria on which a final year project can be assessed and also elucidates the benefits of rubric based assessment over normal assessment.
