Abstract

—The need of pollution free environment and fast depletion of fossil fuel demand electric
vehicles to take over the automobile market. The use of multiphase induction motors can widely be
applicable as an electric propulsion drive in such applications where high power demand, safety and
reliability are the major objectives for selection of propulsion drive. This paper proposes a frame work for
testing and prototyping electric vehicle propulsion drive system using RT-Lab software. The high
performance real time control of five phase induction motor (FPIM) drive with rapid control prototyping is
developed in RT-Lab software. The systematic procedure to design speed and current controller is presented
for Sine PWM controlled FPIM. The op5600 simulator is used as core of Rapid control Prototyping (RCP)
system.
