Abstract

Cities are dynamic and keep growing and Hyderabad is no exception. Transport problems are on the increase in Hyderabad. The transport infrastructure has to keep pace with the growth. Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) not only identifies the problems in transport system but also recommends solutions. Presently, TIA in Hyderabad is mandated only for multiplexes and no other land use class requires TIA to be undertaken. The authorities have taken the initiative to prepare TIA Guidelines for the City of Hyderabad based on the directive from Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA), Hyderabad. This particular paper attempts to describe the need and pre-requisites for conduction of TIA studies for the proposed developments in Hyderabad. It is shown that in addition to the TIA Guidelines, Trip Generation and Parking Rates for the identified land use classes along with review and appraisal process are required to process the TIA applications by the Government agencies.
