Abstract

- Power quality is considered as one of the major essential things in the power system.
Voltage dip is one of the causes of power quality reduction. This can be rectified by placing a
voltage sensing element in the load bus so that continuous power flow is continued at suitable
voltage levels. To ensure better power quality delivering to consumers at the load end side, the
voltage dip occurred in the load bus should be addressed and corrected. A dynamic voltage restorer
seems a better solution in the correction of voltage dip that occurred in the system. Voltage reduction
makes power quality issues to end-use equipment. Dynamic Voltage Restorer is preferred for its
adequate, small size, lesser cost, and reliable dynamic response. This paper presents the
implementation of dynamic voltage restorer in the IEEE 9 Bus distribution system, analysis, and
simulation of DVR in PSCAD, which includes an overcurrent relay for sensing current value in load
end side and breaker for the automatic contact switching operation.
