Abstract

This research studied the effect of laser parameters on clad thickness. 100W CW CO2 laser was used to melt 0.15mm soda lime glass sheet on sheet of AISI 1075 high carbon steel. Three laser parameters were changed in the study, scanning speed of 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 mm/s, with 7, 9 and 11 W laser power and minimum laser spot were placed in three positions 2 mm below surface, at the surface and 2 mm above the surface with codes (-2, 0 and 2) respectively. The results show fine glass structure layer covers the steel substrate. The slowest traverse speed and laser spot position above the surface gives thicker cladding layers.
