ASTM /ASME standards comparison on UTS of Friction stir welded Magnesium alloys
Abstract
There is always been a constant demand for structural materials which bears proper strength and lightweight properties as they play an important role in transportation fields. Magnesium alloys are suitable for the above mentioned areas as they are emerging candidates which can replace aluminium alloys in various fields. This work focusses on the friction stir welding of magnesium alloys AZ31B and AZ91B and calculating the tensile strength of the welded specimens and its analysis. Tensile tests has been carried out according to ASTM standards and ASME standards. A comparison between the two standards and its effect on the weld region has been mentioned.
