Deriving Digital Elevation Model from SRTM Data

Abstract

SRTM Elevation data is available in WGS co-ordinate system with latitudes and
longitudes. Converting SRTM data into Cartesian co-ordinates requires many operations in
any raster GIS. However, if the area is large like a state of Telangana the data is not available
in single file. Telangana State data is available in two files viz., srtm_52_09 & srtm_53_09.
Spatial references of these files are in latitude longitude projection with WGS 84. In this paper
the series of operations that are required to obtain the complete digital elevation model are
presented.
