Thai Films Digital: Self-Esteem in Feminine Culture of New Women

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the relationship between exposure to Thai films digital and self-esteem in feminine culture of new women’s cultures by using a survey research method. The sample population was female students in Bangkok studying at the bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctoral degree. The results showed that segment of female bachelor’s degree students in the 18-22 age group whose original place of domicile was in the northern region, including those in a romantic relationship, those not in a romantic relationship and those who had separated from a romantic partner, had a high frequency of exposure to Thai films. The majority of female students who were in a romantic relationship chose to watch comedy films with their partner on weekdays at theaters. As for self-esteem in women’s cultures in the aspects of physical characteristics, gender relations and emotional expression, the data showed that women build self-esteem by recalling their successes, reflecting on themselves, praising themselves, accepting their mistakes or successes and analyzing them, and creating an atmosphere of warmth and safety when there are differences of opinion. Feelings of acceptance and getting attention from people who are important to them can promote women’s self-esteem. As for the relationship between exposure to Thai films for self-esteem in women’s cultures, the factor of frequency of exposure to Thai films digital was not related to self-esteem in the aspects of physical characteristics, gender relations or emotional expression, but the factors of time of exposure, channel of exposure, choice of whom to watch a films with, and content of the films were related to self-esteem in every aspect that was measured. Exposure to Thai films with erotic content was found to stimulate women’s self-esteem.
