Abstract

The distribution of geospatial information on the internet becomes as an enforcing
factor for information sources. Due to the facts that consider such forcing factors, Internet
allows all levels of society to access geospatial information, and provide a zone for
processing the geo-related information with no location restrictions. In addition, Internet
reshapes all functions of information system including gathering, storing, retrieving,
analyzing and visualizing data. The design and establishment of the Web-GIS platform has
become the more significant part for the provision of geographic data, information and
services through computer networks.
GIS technology is a tool that works to store and send data. With this in mind, web-GIS has
become to generation and sharing of geographic information via the Internet through a server
for the exchange, transmission and display the data on a web browser based on open source
software. The web mapping service can be designed using a set of codes such as HTML,
PHP, and J.S that identified the system components and at the same time using SQL to
manage the databases so that the client can create, query and process the spatial information
on the Internet efficiently.
The aim of this work is, to design and establish a web-GIS by using leaflet to display the
map of Iraq and to determine the locations and names of the provinces and their places and
data and provide interaction with users; the software between both the server and the client
has an open source property. The server side contains the database which is used to store and
process the scripting language. The client side works to provide data and display them where
they can be accessed through the server.
