Abstract

Owing to the characteristics viz. smart sensor nodes, reduced cost and smaller size, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) are used for applications like environment observation and health care monitoring. The major problem identified with WSNs employing large number of sensor nodes is congestion. Congestion results in large number of packet drops, low through put and more energy consumption. In order to overcome these drawbacks, Particle Swarm Optimization based Congestion Control Scheme (PSOBCC) has been proposed in this paper. The simulation analysis of the proposed PSOBCC inferred that the aimed system effectively controlled the traffic, reduced the energy consumption and increased the packet delivery ratio.
