Abstract

The world trend in rural development sector is to improve international standards to focus and
uplift the social issues through public talks. The investigator took a sample of 64 First year B. Tech students
and made a pilot study by Action and Evaluation Research Method. In the present article the investigator has
investigated on the four criteria of Public Speaking. They are- Topic Presentation, Picture description,
Group Discussion and Role Play. They were evaluated for 20 marks by allotting time of 5 minutes for
preparation and 2 minutes for doing individual presentation and each group is given 10-12 minutes for
Group discussion. The collected data was interpreted by using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis.
Present study reveals that there is a significant improvement in Public Speaking ability of the students’leaps
and bounds by developing all the four-skill set. The correlations between all the four criteria were tested and
it is found to be positive in Public Speaking activity. The t and f ratio values are found to be quite significant
at 0.01 levelof engineering students in public speaking criteria. The regression values are found to be
significant among engineering students in learning public speaking skills.
