Abstract

In the present work, contigency constrainedeconomic load dispatch (CCELD) using Cuckoosearch algorithm (CS) is performed to mitigate the line, overloading. In power systems, the security assessment is about searching the reliable operating states, where as the security enhancement is about taking the actions to overcome the contingencies occurred due to overloads in that system. This can be done by rescheduling the generators on the overloaded lines. In CCELD, the severity index andthe costs of fuelare minimized, these are the two objective functions considered to over-come these contingencies. This CCELD approach using CS offers a higher effective solution in terms of optimum cost, minimum Processor time and minimum severity index other than the BA algorithm (BAT), Particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO) techniques.A typical IEEE-30 bus system was meant to analyse the robustness of the CS algorithm for the CCELD approach.
