Japan's Role of Global Economic Governance in the G20 Platform: Attitude, Contributions and Strategies

Abstract

-In the past, as the leading economy in East Asia, Japan played the role of regional representative in leading mechanism of global economic governance. It is the only non European / North American member of the G7 / 8. However, the rise of the G20, including the accession of some Asian countries and the eclipsing of the G7 / 8, represents Japan's role in global affairs and its status as a contemporary power faces big challenges. So far, Japan has made great contributions to the global financial crisis, the economic crisis and the development of the G20. These contributions can not be ignored sometimes, and some of them are contradictory. This article discusses Japan's role in global economic governance through the change of Japan's attitude towards G20 and its participation in global economic governance.
