A Millimetre Wave Substrate Integrated Waveguide Antenna for Space to Earth Satellite Communication
Abstract
In this work, a compact substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) antenna is proposed for space to earth satellite communication applications by using meta-material structure, it is used to obtain low return loss characteristics with large bandwidth performance in the proposed antenna design. In recent years the technology of substrate integrated waveguides was not used especially in satellite antennas. In this research we obtained -49.5122dB return loss at 38.47GHz as a centre frequency with 3600MHz Bandwidth by using a new concept of integrating patch antennas with substrate integrated waveguides technique. The proposed antenna is designed with FR4 substrate of height 1.66mm with relative permittivity of 4.4, in order to maintain loss tangent 0.02. The high frequency structural simulator (HFSS) has been used to simulate the designed antenna. By analysing the simulation results, millimetre wave substrate integrated waveguides antennas are playing an appropriate role in order to satisfy the all deserve qualities to resonate for space to earth satellite communication applications. In this process we have been shown the simulation results of the major antenna characters such as return loss, VSWR, Radiation pattern, Bandwidth, Electric and Magnetic field strength configuration of the designed antenna. Similarly, we have been associating the simulation results with the existing models to rationalize the designed antennaperformance.
