Abstract

Chemical looping combustion delivers a significant potential for high thermodynamic efficiencies in achieving carbon capture and fuel conversion. Chemical looping combustion of methane is well known where the interaction of oxygen carriers plays important role in defining the process performance. Different metal oxides were investigated as oxygen carriers for potential candidate  for chemical looping combustion process. The reduction tests were carried out using TGA apparatus. When 10%Cu- ?Al2O3 particles were reduced, 2.2 wt.%  oxygen release was observed. The cyclical reduction and oxidation reactions were conducted using TGA. The highest oxygen transport capacity was 0.0279 for 10%Ni- ?Al2O3. But the high-speed oxidation and reduction reactions were observed for 10%Cu- ?Al2O3.
