Abstract

As the complex processing of information is increasing, there is need of a system with better performance, wide bandwidth, more capacity, less transmission power. Optical fiber technology is the prominent solution for this. But this also have the some linear or non-linear limiting factor. In this paper one of the non-linear effects is discussed that is self phase modulation (SPM). It is a self-induced process. It can degrade the system performance at high transmission power, so there is need to mitigate this. This effect is mitigated by varying the length of dispersion compensated fiber and single mode fiber. BER and Q value for two cases is also compared.
