Abstract

Autism is a leading developmental disorder that affects children due to the differences in their
social and cognitive ability that impede the simple aspects of life such as playing, learning and
communication. Statistics indicate a growing trend in autism in millennial children which is alarming and it
requires interventions to mitigate the effects. Several sporadic research has been found on learning
interventions but this paper concentrates a focused effort on gathering artificial intelligence related
interventions for moderating the effects of autism. Technology such as virtual reality, mixed reality,
cognitive models and such have been discussed thoroughly with a minor discussion of the same applied in
the Malaysian context. Analysis reveal that the various artificial intelligence solutions are still in the premature stage and requires refinement as it is either tested on a small scale or lacks adaptability. However,
this paper significantly emphasizes the gap in the research-based solutions and proposes a hybrid model
which combines the compliance of the technology, ease of use as well as flexibility for intervention
procedures for learning.
