Abstract

The purpose of this project was to carry out a thorough investigation into the cause of distress in a four-storey shopping Centre building’s damaged foundation in Irbid, Jordan, in order to evaluate the appropriate remedial action for the damage found. In this case study, the damage noted included the crushing concrete and soil settlement due to soil expansion. The study case also seeks to facilitate the work by addressing specific challenges and concerns as well as strategies for the designer in extension building projects. Thereafter, the knowledge obtained from the visual inspection, site investigation and laboratory work were complemented with fundamental information by literature studies on strengthening methods. The multiple reinforcing strategies were then compared and some were compared with others, while a further assessment was conducted by means of complementary analyses. The outcomes of the study demonstrate that in building expansion projects there are many aspects to consider, but there are many strategies possible, as well. To recognize valuable members or missing capabilities, etc., it is critical to actually evaluate the building early. The selection of the most suitable reinforcing approach for the particular scenario is also significant. The obvious method might not be the most suitable one often. A technical committee found the design and methods of construction to be sufficient from H. Abu Asi Engineering Construction office. The key lesson learned from this case study is that the structural stability of a facility can be severely influenced by inadequate strategic planning control of reinforced concrete construction
