Abstract

A reliable routing mechanism is very much essential to protect the wireless networks and guarantee the proficiency. Several researches have been conducted on enhancing the dependability among nodes in a route, using encryption techniques, maintaining trust, or third-party certification etc.  Still, the majority of the routing mechanisms are hard to implement in real-time scenarios due to the challenges in a dynamic environment like Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET).  There are challenges in identifying the untrusted behaviors of routing nodes since MANET does not have any centralized authority or a fixed infrastructure.  Blockchain is a new security mechanism dedicated to data sharing; it can be applied in MANET as it forms the basic building block of Internet of Things.  As a first step towards the blockchain approach, in this paper, a novel cryptographic mechanism is proposed using the MAC address of the nodes.  This paper presents an approach called Address Locator-RSA algorithm which is implemented over Secure AODV protocol for MANET routing.  Experiments are conducted using NetSim simulator and the results show the remarkable performance of the proposed scheme in terms of throughput, minimum possible end-to-end delay communication overhead.
