Abstract

Electrical energy being an important element for human being since each and every person consumes energy for
transportation, cooking, entertainment, lighting, heating and cooling purposes. The advent in technology has created
an imbalance between the demand and the supply. This imbalance has created problems like uninterrupted power
supply, consumption of electricity at high prices and unanticipated fault conditions which may affect the
performance of the electrical appliances. At some points in a day, especially during peak hours, energy need to be
borrowed from neighboring states or the central pool, to manage the demand. This high demand can be solved either
by generating more power by installing power stations or by controlling the power usage at the consumer side. New
power stations are not a feasible and viable solution. The peak load can be considerably reduced with proper
monitoring and control of electrical house hold appliances by either switching off the appliances or by using energy
efficient devices at home. The pattern of energy consumption has counter effects on environment and on our lives.
This paper focuses on energy saving algorithm to be adopted by the home appliances for its operation to enable
automatic monitoring and control of home appliances
