Abstract

Delivery of reliable electricity from wind energy through that of a centralized system and its infrastructure is tending
to become one of the biggest challenges of many developing countries. Converters based on power electronics have
a vital role in the integration of wind generators to that of the grid. A Multi - Level Inverter (MLI) is proposed in in
this paper to inject power into the grid. A five level MLI of cascaded H – Bridge type is proposed here in place of
voltage source converter which is integrated to the grid. The proposed multi-level inverter is compared with that of
conventional voltage source inverter and is found to give a better output in terms of voltage and current quality. Fast
Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis of output voltage and output current were done to indicate the reduction in Total
Harmonic Distortion (THD) due to the presence of harmonics in voltage and current. The simulation of the proposed
inverter topology was completed with the help of MATLAB Simulink to validate the above said results.
